Mid week, Seattle Marathon/Half

So it's Turkey week and I hope all of you have a great holiday. One of favorites I might add, maybe even my most.

The Seattle Marathon is coming up this weekend and the weather is looking ok, cool and dry can't get much better. Now that I put the jinx on it remember to prepare for all.

For tonight's workout I think it would grand if all of the pacers showed up along with those that are going to be the pacees. The pacers can practice their pace and the pacees can practice theirs with them pace.

For those of you who are new to racing these distances just remember that it's just another long run. Be patient early, enjoy how easy it seems, it will get harder and have fun. It will go by much faster than a normal long run so take it all in.If you're a little faster the mile or tow than you planned you better slow down and get on your planned pace. Much better to pick it up at the end and finish with something in the tank then to use it all up at the beginning and struggle it in. Been there done that, the latter is much, much better.

Again have fun and here is a link to another blog post with info that should be useful - http://blog.runchuckit.com/search?q=building+a+little+chuckie

For those of you who are thinking of a Spring Marathon/ half time to get on the program, maybe not full on but you shoudl be thinking about it a little .

Seattle Marathon Water Stop info

Hey Chucksters,

We hope to see lots of people there Sunday, November 29th. If you're running, get your spouse, family & friends to come out & cheer you on at the water stop! There is always room for more water hander outers.

The location for the water stop is at north end of Capital hill on the corner of E.Roanoke & Delmar Dr. E., just east of 10th Ave E. and the fire station on E. Roanoke. Mapquest or Googlemap: 950 E. Roanoke St., Seattle, WA 98102

Be sure to dress warm & be prepared for rain. (sounds fun, huh!). Wear warm waterproof shoes, running shoes are NOT recommended. Also, thin running gloves work well under the nitrile or latex gloves we provide,  bring two pair incase one gets wet. We'll have heat to thaw out cold hands, coffee & doughnuts, hot chocolate, a warm car (if necessary), propane stove to heat stuff up that you might want to bring. We'll have canopies provided by the marathon & the Petermans. I'll bring a couple of folding chairs for people to take a break.

Here are the start times: Half Marathon Run 7:30 am; Half Marathon Walk 7:45 am; Marathon Run 8:15 am. Note: wheelchair events start five minutes before the running events. Some of us will be getting to the station between 5:30 & 6:00. People can start showing up any time after that.  We'll need most people between 8:00 & 11:00. We'll still be busy till about 1:30 or 2:00.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Mid Week

Ok so fall/winter are here, to me they are both the same in these here parts and for that matter spring to. Anyway as much as we hate it I think this is a great thing for your training and fitness, it's makes you just a tad tougher which always pays off on race day. It also makes a race with better weather that much easier and if the race has bad weather well hell you've been there done that. You also would agree that after a run in really crappy weather that you appreciate being done more than if it were on a nice 60 degree sunny day.

One thing I always hear is that people are going to wait until the weather clears up before thy go out for their run well around here that could be along time so just get out there get it done and enjoy the added benefits of extra fitness /toughness that you're getting.

Speaking of bad weather I added an order form to the web site for those that want to ordera Brooks jackets/vest. I'm going to place the order in a couple of days so take advantage of  the great savings.

Starting on Saturday we'll be meeting back at Super Jock n Jill for our Saturday long run until next September.  Don't forget!

For you half Marathoner's there is a new Half in Snoqualmie Valley on May first and I'll be adding a training plan for that this week.

Cinco de Mayo 1/2 in Snoqualmie http://www.runsnoqualmie.com/

It is the inaugural Cinco de Mayo Mini Marathon on Saturday, May 1, 2010.

Entry Fees
$40 -- September - December 2009
$50 -- January 2010 - March 2010
$60 -- April 2010
$70 -- Day of Race

Yes. A half marathon is coming to the Snoqualmie Valley on May 1, 2010. If you are tired of paying $75 to run 13 miles straight up a hill you are not alone. Flat and fast (not to mention affordable) half marathons are hard to come by in Western Washington which will make this beautiful course a very popular one indeed.

Here are a few key points about this inaugural half marathon.
*Gorgeous, yet very flat and very fast course
*USATF Certified and Sanctioned
*Chip Timed
*Free Tech Shirt and Finisher’s Medal
*Benefits Histiocytosis Association of America

Celebrating a Birthday Milestone the sane way

From long time group member -

To my running friends,

I was truly inspired by Dan Mendes when he ran 50 miles on his 50th birthday around Lake Washington in September. I have decided to run 60 around the lake on my 60th birthday tomorrow November 16, 2009. To accomplish this formidable challenge I need your help by running the whole way with me from beginning to end. Before you think I have lost my marbles completely let me explain what I have in mind.

My plan is to do 60 minutes around Lake Union which is about 6 miles. This satisfies my 60 at 60 challenge and makes a whole lot more sense than the other 60 at 60 milestone. Meet us all down at the Starbucks(the tall building) on Westlake Avenue on Lake Union at 6:30pm and join in on the fun.

See you all there,
Terry

Brooks Jackets/vest, and lululemon

First off sorry I didn't update the workouts earlier this week. I was sick and to top that off I was without internet for a day and half. I'm back and better than ever. I've put up an order form for the brooks jacket /vets if you want to order one it should be pretty straight forward I think. On their web site they only list s,m,l as sizes options but I know they have other sizes. What I would do if you want xs or xl is order s or l and then we can exchange it at SJJ or Everyday Athlete. If you order one I'll need you to pay me ASAP as I have to pay for them.

Also tomorrow (14th) is our last Saturday meeting at Madison Park for the year. Next Saturday 21st we'll be back st SJJ on Saturday for your long runs.

For you lululemonites here is the info provided me by them for the " feedback/shop night"

From Karly Wade,

Ok, great - so the date will be Thursday November 19th from 6 - 9pm. Anyone running the Seattle half or full marathon (or any other late fall/winter/spring races) can bring their registration confirmation which will make them eligible to sign up for the R&D program (which is a 15% discount in exchange for feedback). We have a number of design meetings and other opportunities coming up for runners, and anyone signing up for the R&D program will be expected to give feedback online and through upcoming instore events when possible. The event will be open to the Seattle run community, so runners can bring friends from outside the group if they are runners/registered for a race.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Karly Wade  - kwade@lululemon.com

Water Stop info for the Chuckit Crew

Hello Fellow Chucksters,

It’s that time of the year again for soliciting volunteers for the Seattle marathon Chuckit water stop at mile 23 (mile 10 of the half). We’ve been doing the water stop now for about 6 or 7 years, and each year we try to make it the best water stop on the course. To meet that goal this year, we need lots of volunteers. So, please consider volunteering yourself, or if you’re running, have your families and friends come down to help. Most of us have done lots of races and they wouldn’t have been possible without volunteers. This is a chance to give back a little to the sport we love- usually. : )

The marathon is Sunday Nov. 29th, Thanksgiving weekend. We start setting up around 6:00 am. Most of the help is needed between 7:30 and 11:30, first setting up the water tables, then handing out water & Gatorade. Even if you can only come out for a couple of hours, your help will be greatly appreciated.

Again this year we’ll be renting a sound system to help motivate the runners up the hill, and we will be providing a warm area with snacks and warm beverages to keep us going throughout the day. To help defray the costs of these items, we will be accepting donations at the Saturday morning workouts.

Please come out, as all the help we can get is needed. We can never have too many volunteers.

I’ll be sending out more info as we get closer to race date. If you have questions or would like to let me know that you are volunteering, please contact me at: glendor48@hotmail.com, or 206.282.7320. OR, you can sign up via the Seattle Marathon Chuckit Water Stop Community at www.runningnw.com.

Thanks in advance for your support,

Glen Moore

Mid Week

The mid week workouts are posted in each particular group. If you would like to be notified whn they are posted join a group. There are many already set up for spring 2009 events.

I'll be at the store but not the workout tonight, Regina will lead that.

Great runs to everyone who ran in New York over the weekend. You can see the group member results here. You know a lot of people go to New York thinking that it must be an easy course because so many people run it, many people find that it's not. It's a very hilly course with a lot of people to have to work around which makes for a very difficult time. Unless you can get clear of the huminty it's probably best to go there with having a good time in mind. It's not a course that lends itself to PR's. Anyway congrats to those that ran.

I ordered a vest and jacket for Regina and I from Brooks so that you can get a look at the style and fit, hopefully I'll get them in a day or two. they also have them at Super Jock n Jill and Everyday Athlete. Ask me and I'll point them out.

Our last Saturday run from Madison Park this year will the on 21st, after that we'll be back at SJJ. Those of you running the Seattle half or full make sure that you head up the hill towards the race finish and check out that part of the course. You should have down the part out towards Seward park. If you're running the Seattle Full make sure that you go out on the bridge. I think that might be the toughest part of the course because there are two serious hills in it and the wind can be an issue. Good to know what that is all about before you take it on.
