No Roosevelt, New community groups, 50th b-day celebration
As I've mentioned I'm working on a new site that has a nice community section included. I'm going to start using it for the roster. If you go and take a peak you'll see that I created a group for the portland marathon and the nice thing about this is if you're registered user you can create your own groups. If you do please make public which it is by default, we can change this later if we want. If you haven't yet please go and register for the site so that I can start giving you mid week workouts again.
A couple of things. This is a new site with it's own community so your login info from the old site won't work. You have to register for this site. You don't have to have a face book account to login, you can use your login info you used when you created an account. If you have a face book account you should be able to login with your facebook credentials. Make sure that you are using www.runningnw.com and not runningnw.com I had assign one url to facebook for this to work. If you have any trouble let me know so that I can see any issues if they exist.
I hope to get the site finished up this week or early next week but have been working on a web project with Puma and it's taking more time than I thought but I'll finish it up. There is no reason though you can't start using the community functions
As we do every year we'll be meeting at Madison Park for our Saturday morning runs starting the Saturday after Labor day (sept 12th) until early to mid November. Will be a nice change of scenery as well as give everyone a chance to check out the Seattle Marathon course.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Long time group member Dan Mendes will be running 50 miles this Saturday to celebrate his 50th b-day. He plans to run around LK Washington finishing up at Leschi in the afternoon. Come on and help him on the run or meet up with us afterward to celebrate. I'll be at the bar (of course) around 3:00, here is the info that Joy and Dan sent me.

He would like anyone interested to please come along for any part of this run. The more the merrier!
We have chosen a 50 mile loop around Lake Washington starting and ending at Leschi. With a stop in at the Leshi BluWater for post run cocktails :).....they will be very needed.
We will have a few drivers along the way to support the runners and will be able to pick you up or drive you back to your car if you would like to run along. We will also have cell phones to keep in touch and help those interested to find the group.

Mid Week, New Chuckit site (beta)
Am still having trouble accessing the roster so I'm going to have to either recreate it or come up with another alternative so I'm still unable to create the weekly workouts for now.
We'll be running over to Roosevelt HS tonight for those on the track to check out the scene. Those still running hills can continue on at Woodland Park. Regina will be there for those so that you don't get lonely.
Tomorrow night we'll check out the track at Juanita HS and see if they are done resurfacing.
For awhile now I've need to do a major update on the web site. I started it yesterday and it is still a major work in progress. http://runningnw.com you'll notice a community area that you can log in with your facebook account and has many of the functions you'll find on face book, many I have to implement. Take a look. Of course your feedback is appreciated as you use this site more than I do. I hope also to be able to come up with another option for the roster. I may be able to do it with the community modual. Will test that out.
A couple in the group David and Carol (the Peterman's) have started a new business http://www.tablefare.com and are offering a great deal for all members here is the info on that.
Chuck,
We have finally launched our company and want to offer our running buddies a special introductory discount on their very own SpiceCare spice storage system. Below is a brief description of our product, but more information can be found on our website, www.TableFare.com . Also, here is a link to a short video I posted on my blog showing how I use SpiceCare in my kitchen.
http://www.tablefare.com/blog/
The official description:
SpiceCare is an elegantly simple, superbly functional spice storage solution, great for everyone from casual cooks to serious chefs. Multiple sizes of interlocking containers keep spices perfectly organized on a counter, in a cupboard or laying flat in a drawer. Made from high-quality polycarbonate, the containers are crystal clear, won't chip or break and are dishwasher safe. Each container comes with a spoon-leveling lid, or can be fitted with a shaker screen and flat lid. A brushed stainless steel clip holds a paper label that can easily transfer to another container. An airtight seal keeps contents fresh. Spices not included.

Mid Week update
Well I've gotten the word from a couple ever vigilant members that there is a fence around the Greenlake track so we won't be able to use it again until December if I remember correctly. Not a problem though, there are many things we can do with out a track which will give you more diversity in your training and give you the same results.
This week we'll meet at the track as always so that I can pass the word about my plan for us to meet at the Roosevelt H.S. track next week and see if that is something we would be able to use. If that doesn't work out then we'll continue to meet at the greenlake track and go from there, as I mentioned it's really not a problem as I can cook up a variety of workouts that we can do on the road plus of course the hills aren't fenced off.
Tomorrow night we'll meet at inglemore H.S over there in Kirkland for the 2mi TT that the eastsiders missed last week. Been a tough year for us track wise as the Juanita HS track that we use for Wednesday night workout has been closed for resurfacing all the last few weeks but I think it will be back next week or so hopefully.
Most of you are still working out on hills so none of this is an issue. For those that are on the (should be)track I'll give you a good workout for you to do around the play fields tonight.

Mid Week, Be careful out here
Over to the right you'll notice a bloody knee someone acquired on their run on Saturday. That would be about the 5th or 6th week in a row some one has fallen on a run with the group. (there were two this last Saturday) People let's be careful out there. Make sure you keep your eyes ahead of you and look for dangers, I know you get into some riveting conversations but please pay attention. I know most of this comes from being tired and your feet not lifting as high as you think they are but pay attention to this small detail.
I've been joking with some of you about it but it's not really funny if someone falls and breaks something or in one case a couple of years ago knocked their teeth out. Plus all of your hard work over the summer might be for naught if you get hurt and can't run.
Super Jock n Jill half marathon is just a month away. For those of you running it exclusively you've got just a few weeks of prep left so make the best of the time you have and make your remaining workouts count. For those using it as stepping stone to a fall marathon it's time to focus on it and try and get the best results that you can which can only help your future marathon out both physically and mentally.
As everyone eases into the remaining long runs for their fall event it's important that you prepare for them as you would a race. Doing this will only make them easier and let you get more out of them, plus you'll recover from them quicker which will help your mid week speed workouts. So what I'm saying is make sure you eat right, hydrate properly as well as get enough sleep before hand. Preparing for these as you would a race will also get you used to the process that works for you before the race. Now I'm not saying you need to build a little chuckie or anything but it would be a good time to test out any gear you plan to use.
I've had several inquiries from Girls on the Run for coaching so am passing on that info for your reading.
Hi Chuck,
I was wondering if you could help us recruit coaches for the upcoming fall program session of Girls on the Run of Puget Sound. It would be great if you could forward this email to possible coaches through a list or individually (running groups are great resources for us!), post to a website or newsletter, or simply let people know by word of mouth about the opportunity. The below e-announcement is easy to forward, and please get in touch with any questions.
Though I'm pretty sure you're familiar with our program, I'll quickly give you a quick summary of our organization: Girls on the Run operates an after-noon school prevention program that uses the power of running to educate and prepare preteen girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. We have 10 program sites throughout the Puget Sound region, including 5 in Seattle. Learn more at www.girlsrun.org.
Our program is facilitated by female volunteer coaches. Girls on the Run coaches do NOT need to be elite runners. Any woman who lives a healthy lifestyle and is committed to improving the lives of girls can be a GOTR coach. Details at http://www.girlsrun.org/
Thanks so much for your support,
