No Roosevelt, New community groups, 50th b-day celebration

After trying out Roosevelt HS last week I've decided not to use it. We only had a few people go over and it was really crowded and chaotic so we'll continue on as in the past meeting at the Lower woodland track. For those that are planning for a track workout I'll give you a workout for thebroad or around the lake that will be just as good and as I've mentioned that your upcoming events are on the road these should be as good if not better. Another reason I'm not fond of using it (the Roosevelt HS track) is that it really fragments the group which really makes communicating to every one an issue.

As I've mentioned I'm working on a new site that has a nice community section included. I'm going to start using it for the roster. If you go and take a peak you'll see that I created a group for the portland marathon and the nice thing about this is if you're registered user you can create your own groups. If you do please make public which it is by default, we can change this later if we want. If you haven't yet please go and register for the site so that I can start giving you mid week workouts again.

A couple of things. This is a new site with it's own community so your login info from the old site won't work. You  have to register for this site. You don't have to have a face book account to login, you can use your login info you used when you created an account. If you have a face book account you should be able to login with your facebook credentials. Make sure that you are using www.runningnw.com and not runningnw.com I had assign one url to facebook for this to work. If you have any trouble let me know so that I can see any issues if they exist.

I hope to get the site finished up this week or early next week but have been working on a web project with Puma and it's taking more time than I thought but I'll finish it up. There is no reason though you can't  start using the community functions

As we do every year we'll be meeting at Madison Park for our Saturday morning runs starting the Saturday after Labor day (sept 12th) until early to mid November.  Will be a nice change of scenery as well as give everyone a chance to check out the Seattle Marathon course.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Long time group member Dan Mendes will be running 50 miles this Saturday to celebrate his 50th b-day. He plans to run around LK Washington finishing up at Leschi in the afternoon. Come on and help him on the run or meet up with us afterward to celebrate. I'll be at the bar (of course) around 3:00, here is the info that Joy and Dan sent me.

Friday 8/28 Dan Mendes is turning 50!  In true Chuck-it style he is running 50 miles on Saturday 8/29 to celebrate 8-).

He would like anyone interested to please come along for any part of this run.  The more the merrier!

We have chosen a 50 mile loop around Lake Washington starting and ending at Leschi.  With a stop in at the Leshi BluWater for post run cocktails :).....they will be very needed.

We will have a few drivers along the way to support the runners and will be able to pick you up or drive you back to your car if you would like to run along. We will also have cell phones to keep in touch and help those interested to find the group.

They are:  Dan 206-920-9104, Joy 206-595-9524, Alicia Britt 425-495-3224 and Drew Beebe 206-226-8364.

The route is Clockwise around Lake Washington per the link below, but starting at Leschi not Gasworks Park.http://www.seattlebiketours.org/members/maps/lake_wash_clockwise.pdf

Dan plans to run approximately 10 minute miles with some walk breaks.

We have mapped out some good places to meet and approximate times we should be there:

6:00 AM:  Meeting at Leschi next to BluWater Restaurant in the parking lot on the South Side.

6:15 AM:  Starting the run....(Here we go!).

9:00-9:15 AM:  Approximately mile 16, The restrooms at Rhododendron/Kenmore Park in Kenmore on the NE corner of 68th Ave NE and NE 170th Street.

11:30 - 11:45 AM: Approximately mile 29, The restrooms at the SW corner of the Downtown Bellevue Park, just south of Bel Square Mall.

1:00 - 1:30 PM: Approximately mile 37, The restrooms next to Kidd Valley Burgers and Ivars Restaurants in Coulon Park in Renton.

2:30 - 3:00 PM: Approximately mile 46, The restrooms at Seward Park.

3:15 - 4:00 PM:  He hopes to be finished back at the BluWater in Leschi and heading in for a much needed Celebratory Cocktail!!! :-P

We advise calling for updates as these time are only estimates.  Or if you wish to meet us at a different location please call so we know to watch for you.  The route may have to vary some due to road or trail closures.  We will try to stay as true as possible.

We really look forward to having you join Dan on his crazy day of running!  Having others run along will make this a very memorable day!

Thanks so much,  Hope to see you there!
Joy Mendes
